Welcome To SASM!

SASM 2011 Annual Conference Overview:
The Society of Anesthesia and Sleep Medicine had a very successful inaugural meeting on October 14 in Chicago before the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ meeting. The theme was “OSA, Anesthesia and Sleep: The Common Ground”. This all day meeting attracted nearly 250 registrants, a panel of distinguished speakers including Emery Brown, Kingman Strohl and David Hillman. There were a total of 35 abstracts. Four research awards were given, two in clinical research and two in basic research. Seventy percent of the participants were from an anesthesiology background, 20% sleep and 10% from other disciplines. The meeting provided a fertile ground for interaction between the disciplines of sleep medicine and anesthesia. The feedback to date has been overwhelmingly positive. Please consider joining The Society of Anesthesia and Sleep Medicine (SASM) as a member. We look forward to seeing you October 11–12, 2012 in Washington, D.C at our next meeting right before the ASA annual meeting.
Welcome to SASM!
Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) are at increased risk to sustain major adverse events following surgery and general anesthesia including airway difficulties, myocardial ischemia and even death. As Anesthesiologists and Sleep Medicine physicians began to collaborate to improve the perioperative care of OSA patients, we recognized the fertile common ground existing between the disciplines of Anesthesia and Sleep medicine. As a result, The Society of Anesthesia and Sleep Medicine (SASM) was born.
We invite you to attend our Society of Anesthesia and Sleep Medicine Annual Conference on October 11–12, 2012 in Washington DC. Look over our site. Learn more about SASM. Learn about OSA and other sleep disorders and how they are impacted during the perioperative period by anesthesia. Consider joining us as a member of SASM. We would love to have you!
